God Always Keeps His Promises

God Always Keeps His Promises

How do we know if someone is trustworthy? Or if they are someone who keeps their promises? We know the answers to these questions by their character.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, character is defined as “one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual”. Character is how a person acts consistently over a long period of time. Oftentimes, a person’s character changes (hopefully for the better) as they grow older.

However, unlike people, God’s character doesn’t change. Since we know that God is faithful and we know that His character never changes, then we can also be certain that God always keeps His promises. The entire Bible is evidence of this. Time and time again we see God’s promises fulfilled in His Word.

Let’s take a look at just a few examples of God’s promises we see completed in the Bible.

Some Examples of God’s Promises We See Fulfilled In The Bible:

  • God promises the childless Abraham children of his own. In fact, He promises Abraham that his offspring shall be as numerous as the stars in the sky. (Genesis 15:45). God didn’t just promise Abraham what he wanted most, He went beyond that and gave him so much more – a holy lineage which Jesus descended from!
  • God changes Jacob’s name to Israel and promises that “a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants” (Genesis 35:11 NIV). We see that the twelve tribes of Israel come from and are named after each of his twelve children!
  • God promised Joseph in a dream that he would rise to a position of power and reign over his family (Genesis 37:5-11). Even though Abraham is long gone by this point, we still see God’s promise to him fulfilled several generations later through Joseph!
  • God promised the deliverance of His people the Israelites from the rule of the Egyptians to Moses (Exodus 6:1-12). Yep, we’re still seeing God’s promise to Abraham of blessing his descendants here in the book of Exodus! How cool! And we’ll see it countless more times through Abraham’s genealogy, through King David all the way to Jesus!

And these are only a mere handful of examples!

Now, did these promises get fulfilled right away? No. Many of these promises took decades, some even generations, to come to fruition.

God’s Timing Is Different Than Our Own

We know that God’s timing is different than our own. While it can be tempting to grow impatient in the waiting seasons and begin to doubt God’s plan, we see in the Bible that taking matters into our own hands can lead to sinning against God. And as most of us probably know, sinning only leads to disappointment and heartbreak.

Even when it’s hard, we can trust in God as we wait on His promises to be fulfilled in our own lives. We can have confidence that God always keeps His promises!
